– BOOK REVIEW
Book review done by Sanjay Nannaparaju
“I
Can” is a compendium of practical tips to sure success for all
people irrespective of their age, sex, creed or nationality. The
author aims to impart the most fundamental human qualities which
are never officially taught at any level of education, and the
knowledge of which is essential for success in life. This work is
built on what the great American writer Ralph Waldo Emerson sought
to achieve, “even if one life can be changed.” The title of
this book reflects the author’s determination to instill
confidence in the individual human being to realize the potential
of his inner self, to say with conviction “I Can.”
Of
all the multitude of books written on communication and attitude,
this work stands apart in terms of simplicity in presentation, and
reflecting the true self of a committed professional. Most
specially the chapter ‘attitude decides your altitude’ the
author drives home the message; we are what we make ourselves to
be. The story of the mynah (cuckoo) and the elephant proves that
point: “The secret of success is in doing things not merely
because they are popular, but because you deeply believe in
them.”
The
author values basic human relationships, considered to ensure
success in life. This
book concretizes the point, that the sum and substance of life
lies in developing “genuine love and affection” which “is
always earned by our socially legitimate responses to our fellow
humans in need; parents, peers and teachers included.” For the
author simple is complex, and reference to the Abraham Lincoln’s
letter on the values of human life, at the end of this
must-to-be-read book has a message to youth of today: in an age of
chaos and confusion realize the order by following simple values
of life.
