IIMs
asked to evolve uniform fee structure
The
Union Human Resource Development Ministry today asked the Indian
Institutes of Management (IIMs) to evolve a uniform fee structure and
gave them a month's time to resolve the "complex issue".
The
decision was taken at the end of a two-hour meeting convened by the
HRD Minister, Arjun Singh said a timetable, had been drawn up for
addressing the fee hike issue.
As
per this timetable, the IIM directors will discuss among themselves a
uniform fee structure on June 6. They will return to the Ministry on
june 8 with a "consensus formula" to break the six-month-old
impasse over fee reduction.
With some of the IIMs' chairpersons likely to be out-of-station in the
coming weeks, the six institutions have been given time till June 25
to convene meetings of their boards to finalise the "consensus
formula" Mr. Singh said "this approach is necessary because
the Government respects and believes in the principle of autonomy to
all institutions of higher learning"
