Risk Management

CONTINUUM, the annual seminar series, is a regular event at Shailesh J Mehta School of Management, IIT Bombay. This event aims to cover the latest in management by inviting eminent speakers from business and academia. Each of these seminars focuses on issues and challenges faced by a management function, and aims at drawing insights from the knowledge and experience of the speakers. The seminars are well attended by delegates from different organizations and students from various business schools. A seminar is being organized on the 21st & 22nd of August 2004 with the central theme:

At Continuum 2004, we propose to take a holistic view of different types of risks that exist and tools used to handle them so as to minimize losses and optimize returns. The focus area in this two-day seminar would be

        • Asset Allocation – Future trends

        • Derivatives – Risk mitigation tool

        • Insurance – The Growing Private Participation

 

 

Asset Allocation – Future trends

 

 

Through this forum we aspire to get the answers to the following questions: 

  • How do different companies explore the bag of opportunities that is offered by increasing asset classes? 

  • What are the various asset allocations strategies traditionally and how is these expected to change with the future?

  • How dynamic are asset allocation decisions?

  • How do various companies view the potential of commodities and international investing?

  • How is co-optation in the market?

  • What have we learnt from mature markets like Wall Street?

Derivatives As a Risk Mitigation Tool

  • How the Indian are markets exploring new avenues to mitigate the risk through various derivative instruments available?

  • Small investors keep away from derivative trading because of its complex nature, tough norms and high entry barriers. How can this investor participation be increased?

  • As the initial margin is high and volume trading is a good way to generate wealth, it has lead to the growth of Wealth Management Services in India. What is the future of this route in the Indian Scenario?

Insurance– The Growing Private Participation

Keeping in view the dynamic nature of insurance industry, some of the issues we intend to address in this forum are:
