The
Indian school of business hosts an international conference on
statistical theory
Hyderabad,
December 23, 2004: The Indian School of Business (ISB) is hosting an
International conference on the FUTURE OF STATISTICAL THEORY,
PRACTICE AND EDUCATION from December 29, 2004 – January 1, 2005. His
Excellency Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, President of India, will inaugurate
the conference. Professor C R Rao, F.R.S., recipient of Padma Vibhushan
and the U.S. Presidential award of National Medal for Science, is
leading the Conference.
Talking about the Conference and the importance of Statistics in all
walks of life, Professor C R Rao said,” If there is a problem to be
solved, seek statistical advice instead of appointing a committee of
experts. Statistics can throw more light than the collective
wisdom of the articulate few.”

Three prestigious International Statistical Societies, American
Statistical association, Institution of Mathematical Statistics,
International Indian Statistical Associations are sponsoring this
conference. About 300 participants from India and abroad will congregate
at the ISB from December 28, 2004 for the Conference. More than half the
delegates will be coming from countries such as the USA, UK, Canada,
Australia and others.
The Conference seeks to assess past developments in the field of
statistics and to discuss future directions in statistical theory,
practice and education. The conference will also provide a forum for
discussion on reforms in statistical training and education needed to
meet the growing and changing needs of statistical practitioners among
the industry and the government. Current research trends in probability
and statistics will also be focused upon
There will also be three associated workshops on Bioinformatics, Data
Mining, and Six Sigma Methodology. The conference also plans to present
awards for the two best papers presented by young researchers.
