Retail Yatra Concluded
The students of the first batch of the Post Graduate Programme in Retail
Communications Management (PGPRCM) at Mudra Institute of Communications,
Ahmedabad(MICA) concluded their first “MICA Retail Yatra”. The yatra
with 15 students, alongwith faculty members, continued for 23 days,
toured through 10 cities and interacted with various key people in
different organisations. They met Mr.Kishore Biyani of
Pantaloons, who is the doyen of the Indian Retail Industry;
Mr.Arvind Singhal of KSA Technopak who is Chairman of the largest retail
multi-national consultancy in India; Mr.Brotin Banerjee of Barista, who
is COO of the modern day coffee chain; Mr.R.Sriram of Crossword, who
redefined the concept of book retailing in India; Mr.Viraj Gandhi of The
Medicine Shoppe, who launched an International chain of medicine shops
in India; Mr.Susil Dungarwal of The Loft, who started the first ever
largest footwear store in India, to name a few. These corporate
executives and entrepreneurs, provided the students with valuable
insights of their business model, strategy and operations which
contributed to a great extent to the building of India’s largest
organised format large retail brands, besides providing very meaningful
and practical learnings for the MICA students pursuing their
postgraduate study in Retail Communications Management. The students
also learnt about the various retailing formats which presently exist
and also which are evolving. On an overall basis the industry took this
yatra on a very positive manner as it was a very unique and the first of
its kind in Indian education pedagogy.
The Mica Retail Yatra was supported by The Retailers Association of India
(RAI) under the guidance of Mr.Gibson Vedamani, CEO, RAI. Faculty
members accompanying the students were Prof.Hemant Trivedi and Ms.Mini
Mathur.
