The Indian
Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) was set up in 1963 by the
Government of India as an autonomous organisation to help
professionalize the country's foreign trade management and
increase exports by developing human resources; generating,
analyzing and disseminating data, and conducting research. The
Institute visualizes its future role as:

A catalyst for
new ideas, concepts and skills for the internationalization of
the Indian economy.

The primary
provider of training and research-based consultancy in the
areas of international business, both for the corporate
sector, government and the students community.

An institution
with proven capability to continuously upgrade its knowledge
base with a view to servicing the requirements of Government,
trade & industry through both sponsored and non-sponsored
research and consultancy assignments.
The Institute's

The Institute is a member of:

Association of Trade Training Organisations (IATIO), UK

Academy of
International Business (AIB), USA

Association of
Training Institutions for Foreign Trade in Asia and the
Pacific (ATIFTAP), Manila, Philippines
The Institute has
also entered into a MOU with Korean Institute for Industrial
Economics and Trade for collaborative research.
ESCAP has recognised the Institute as a Centre of Maritime
Education and Training. The Centre offers a specialised
part-time programme for the benefit of shippers and others
involved in this area.
The Institute has so far offered its training services to about
700 professionals from 30 developing countries. As a part of
Technical Cooperation amoung Developing Countries, the Institute
has conducted training programmes in Mongolia and Vietnam. It
has also organised inter-regional Seminars/ Workshops in
association with International Trade Centre, UNCTAD/WTO.
Within the country, IIFT has institutional linkages with major
trade and industry associations, such as Confederation of Indian
Industries(CII), Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO)
etc. Joint Seminars on important national issues are the primary
outcomes of these linkages.
