FACILITIES

Library :

Sir Jehangir Ghandy Library of XLRI contains a select collection of about 42,000 volumes of books, and, 11000 bound volumes of journals. Further the library subscribes to 400 foreign and Indian journals. To provide current information, the library has a collection of corporate annual reports, project reports and dissertation of students and government documents. The library also has a good number of video cassettes, manuals and software to aid faculty in classes. The library document press clippings on management and related subjects. The library provides reference, indexing and bibliographical service in management literature and repographic service. The library is laid out spaciously and is air-conditioned to provide calm and peaceful environment for serious reading. The library has electronic and CD ROM facilities to access recent and back issue journals that are available on CDs providing information of text and full images of articles from more than 500 journals and abstracts from more than 1000 journals.

Computers :

Computers are available to facilitate research activities, coursework and administration. The research computing resources at XLRI include latest servers and workstations, state-of-the-art campus nertwork and 64 Kbps leased line internet connection. Together there are two high end digital servers to host XLRI web page, Mail server, Oracle and other software and database (PROWESS, VANS etc). About 140 units of Pentium work stations as windows NT/ Windows 95 client serve the desk needs of faculty, students, library, system, classroom, MDP-In-Company and various administrative offices. A fibre optic backbone network, high speed ethernet switches and UTP connections for the desktop provided to share the internal connectivity to the internet,. Every faculty desktop has inkjet printers, multimedia and internet connections to facilitate their teaching and research requirements. High speed HP laser printers, HP scanner, HP CD writer, color printers, CD tower are the other accessories available to ther users for their computing needs,. PROWESS published by the Center for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) is available on LAN for faculty and students to get corporate information of over 5000 companies in India. The institute has the Internet and Worldwide E-mail facilities made available to the faculty, students and administration and the participants of the Management Development Programs. The student terminal centre operates round the clock seven days a week.

Other Facilities :

The institute has more than 10 clasrooms of different seating capacirties and are provided with spacious blackboards, overhead projectors and screens. To enhance the presentation of lectures, seminars and other academic exercises, the institute has a good audio-visual setup. Overhead projectiors, LCD and sound sytstems are available for the use of faculty and students. A separate computer class is available with Multimedia facilities for classroom presentations and computer classes. Closed-circuit television facility is available for recording and playback of exercises. A library of video tapes and filmscreens is being set up. Facilities for indoor and outdoor games for recreation and relaxation are available. Medical facilities are available on campus to treat common illness. XLRI has professionally qualified and experienced faculty drawn from various streams of management practice. Part-time and visiting faculty contribute to enrich the quality of the core courses and electives offered to the students.

A balance of academicians, reserachers, professionals from both public and private sectors and public systems with rich research and managerial experience contributes to the institute's excellence and character in the country.
